Megaformers, Results and Victoria’s Secret Models

If you have ever attended a Megaformer class at Sculpt Studio in Bethesda, you know how intense the workout is. It takes focus, determination, stamina and every ounce of strength you have to transition from move to move without taking a break for 50 minutes. The way your body feels (sore) and your mind clears at the end of class is good bio feedback on what you accomplished. The trick is to keep coming back and build up to two, three or four classes per week. Need some reassurance of the possible results of becoming a Megaformer maniac? As the buzz around Megaformers and the Lagree Method of training grows, more and more celebrities and models are coming out of the woodwork as devotees. Second Verse: Worse Than The First….You’re Not Alone

Recently overheard at Sculpt Studio: a conversation between two clients new to Megaformer workouts, as they realized between them that sure, the first workout was a breed apart; but that second visit…..It actually was harder than the first time! It seems like a cruel joke, but it’s very common among our clients to endure the world-rocking of the first time on the Megaformer, only to find that – contrary to reasonable expectation of progress or familiarity – the second class seems harder. If this has happened to you too, you’re not alone. Why? Any number of performance-impacting factors on any given day make us feel like RockyBalboa, fist-pumping at the top of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps*, or well, Rocky when (insert your favorite fictional boxing villain here: _______) has knocked the stuffing out of him. Why are some workouts an endorphin party while others make us feel as if a lead-balloon has more oomph than we do? (*Is that Rocky reference showing my age? That was total triumph! If you haven’t seen the Rocky® franchise, you owe it to yourself to see the original…). The first factor is the obvious: It’s physical. So, after an ab-kicking like few that have come before, your muscles may just not have recouped enough to thank you and ask for more. Yet. The second factor is subtle: It’s psychological. Who doesn’t expect the second go-round with a new thing to go a little more smoothly than the first? We’re more wise to the ways of What-the-hell-IS-a-Megaformer; and whether we fell off the machine that first time or not (truth: I totally did…) we expect a little more familiarity. We expect to feel even the slightest bit…accomplished? Hasn’t every coach or music or dance teacher told us that ‘practice makes perfect’? “I’ve already been here. I’ve got this” you may think. Then a few short minutes into that second workout, you realize: it’s the same Studio; same machine. But that’s where the parallels probably end. Every workout is different. That’s the beauty (when you’ve been doing this awhile) and the beast (when you haven’t yet). There is enormous variety in the routines, so it takes a while to hear the name of an exercise and connect it with the right body position or movement. It’s all “rub your tummy and pat your head at the same time” in the beginning. The other mental factor that can make the second class seem harder than the first is that now you know what’s coming from a global perspective (if not the actual moves or order of the exercises). It’s settled into your consciousness somewhere that the instructor is going to challenge you every single one of those 50 minutes. It’s going to make your muscles shake with exertion. You’re expected to fail (from a muscle endurance perspective) – and expected to keep going until you do. There are no formal “breaks” in this relentless session. The transitions are fast from one exercise to the next, but the movement is s-l-o-w. That’s all part of the design. So don’t be discouraged if you come away from the second session feeling not quite so stoked as you did after surviving the first. It’s a process. Some days are Rocky® !!! and some days are just plain...

Sculpt Studio Voted One of the Top Pilates Studios in Best of Bethesda

It has been one busy first year at Sculpt Studio! We opened our Megaformer studio in Bethesda and hoped to build a community of clients dedicated to fitness, a healthy lifestyle and of course Lagree Method workouts. You are an amazing group of people. I admire your tenacity and dedication. The more insane moves and routines that we challenge you with, the more you dig deep to finish and ask for more. Back in August, we asked you to vote for Sculpt Studio as the best Pilates studio in Bethesda. We’re not exactly a Pilates studio…but it was the closest fitness category to vote in. We were a brand new business, open seven months, so we were hopeful but unsure of what our results would be. YOU ROCKED THE VOTE! Sculpt Studio was a top vote getter in Best of Bethesda 2105! The reason we made that prestigious list was you, our clients. Thank you for voting for us and for the passion you feel about our studio, instructors and classes. We love that you are Megaformer maniacs and bring friends, family and significant others to experience the unique BURN our studio offers. We endeavor to make our second year in business even better than the first. Look for continued improvements and offerings as we...

Bethesda Lucy Ladies Meet the Megaformer

As the featured studio for the Lucy store in Bethesda, we had the opportunity to introduce a few of their lovely staff members to the Megaformers at Sculpt Studio. A few were familiar with traditional Pilates reformers, but were surprised at how different the Megaformers were, the intensity of the Lagree Method, how many calories were burned and how many muscles were challenged in class. Hence this quote: “The class was again, great! It amazing how you guys pack so much into just 50 minutes! (I love that the instructor changes the resistance for me, that part always overwhelmed me)”. I believe quotes from new clients are one of the best ways to describe Megaformer classes at Sculpt Studio, so here are three more from the Lucy Ladies: Kady: “Wow! That was hard, but in the best way!!” Shadya: “So intense! Loved it, can’t believe it was only 50 mins! Can’t wait to go back :-)” Stephanie: “A lot harder than it looks, really intense workout, but I loved it!” Curious how you’ll feel about the Lagree Method and Megaformers? Use the code: SCULPTFREE to book a free single class to try it out. There’s nothing to fear but fear...
